Unique Patio Houses

Unique Casas Patio is a development of eight single-family dwellings of the courtyard-house type located in the district of Pedregalejo (Malaga). The project reinterprets a deeply Mediterranean residential typology, proposing homes that are organised around a central courtyard as the true domestic heart.
The concept of this project is to create a house that turns in on itself by incorporating a central courtyard covered by a skylight that allows this central courtyard space to be used and enjoyed by the family for a large part of the year. This distribution guarantees natural lighting, cross ventilation and privacy.

The main rooms - living room and kitchen-dining room - open up completely to this void through folding windows, blurring the boundary between indoors and outdoors.
The urban implantation responds precisely to the conditions of the surroundings and the planning, generating a fragmented façade that recognises the domestic scale of the neighbourhood. The project combines contained volumetry, façade rhythm and solar control, reinforced by pergolas and shading elements on the roof.
At the material level, the proposal is for a sober and timeless architecture, with façades in light tones and vertical texture, complemented by metallic lattices that provide depth, solar protection and privacy.
The development has been designed to achieve the maximum energy rating (A). From the early stages of the project, a detailed study of orientation, sunlight, construction systems, insulation and high-performance installations has been carried out, achieving highly efficient homes, with energy consumption up to 50 % lower than average and a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions.
Unique Casas Patio thus proposes a contemporary, intimate and luminous housing model, which updates the tradition of the patio as an essential space in Mediterranean life.
